Charlotte, NC (November 2010) – This November marks an era for professional bodybuilder Don Long as he celebrates his commitment, journey and respect for the sport of bodybuilding. 15 years ago Don walked out on stage at the 1995 NPC Nationals as an inspiring amateur and left with his pro status.
There is no doubt that Don has an incredible physique, outgoing personality, loyalty to ISS and love for the sport of bodybuilding. However, none of these things encompass the real reason Don Long has captured so many fans. What Don has is a uniquely inspirational story of hope that speaks to the core of every individual with a struggle.
In early 2000, the IFBB bodybuilder was diagnosed with massive kidney failure and was put on a dialysis schedule four times a week. Don’s doctors discovered he was born with one kidney, leading to high blood pressure that then shut down his second kidney. After one failed kidney transplant, Don was put on a new, innovative dialysis treatment that allowed him to live an active lifestyle, still training and pursuing his bodybuilding passion.
The overarching message of Don’s life is consistency and discipline. These skills that he learned in bodybuilding ultimately saved his life as a dialysis patient. Don hopes to encourage anyone with an injury, disease, disability or hardship, to hold on to their dreams with a tenacious grip, relentlessly pursuing their goal.
